Features of the Media Client SDK - Mobiles & tablets version

Input media formats:

• Smooth (VoD & Live). An adaptive HTTP format specified by Microsoft. Used by Microsoft in Silverlight, but is an open format that third party clients also support.
• Apple HLS (VoD & Live). An adaptive HTTP format specified by Apple. Used by Apple in iPhone/iPad, but is – like Smooth – an open format.
• MPEG DASH (VoD & Live). A new adaptive format specified by ISO. Wide and promising industry backing. We support both MPEG-2 TS and MP4-based (ISOBFF) profiles.
• MP4. Traditional progressive video format used by YouTube and many others.

• Microsoft PlayReady DRM. We can either deliver support to other Microsoft PlayReady licensees, or also sell PlayReady through us. For delivery of DRM along with the SDK as an app, we have no solution for output control. (For PlayReady, this will mean a low Microsoft security classification).

Output media formats:

• MPEG-2 TS.
• Other formats can be added at request. The reason we at present support only MPEG-2 TS is that this product was initially designed for the needs of the Connected TVs & STBs market (where MPEG2-TS is the dominant format).
  
• HLS (used in apps with native HLS-support).
